MURIEL

Muriel is a literary magazine of poetry, prose, photography and art by women, for women.

It started with the ocean. I went to the sea during my divorce to feel the upwelling of everything I'd stuffed below the surface for years — to cry into the vastness and release what I didn't think anyone could understand. What I found there was not an answer but an opening: enough of one to know what I actually wanted, and to be able to ask for it.

Muriel is a place for that. For crying out, for aching, for desiring, for grieving. For what we can only tell the ocean.

Issue One gathers 21 women writing and making from Vermont, Cornwall, Cyprus, Toronto, Philadelphia, Queensland and beyond. It is edited, designed, and mailed by one person, funded by the people who read it.

Muriel has no publisher, no institution, and no advertising. It's made by one person, and printing it is the biggest cost.

Ordering from outside the US?International postage runs $28–38 depending on where you are — more than the magazine itself, unfortunately. I want to devour and savor it all at once. I love it. You inspire me to stay dancing and writing and weeping with the whole of it.

Come to Me Healing

Poems for wild hearts

Remember the day when you were a child, and the day went on and on, and you played in the trees high and long and the day stretched out till the edges of dinner.

A book to take to bed with you. To recall your wild heart, to remember who you were before the world told you who to be.

"Holy fuck, I'm reading your book on a plane and I wish I was outside because every page is making me want to run, swim, breathe, scream, cry, throw my hands up. It's so fucking good." — Kate Vollrath
